CHORLEY Athletic Club's road walking athlete John Payn competed in the Captain Barclay Millennium Challenge at Newmarket at the weekend.

Pitched against athletes from across the world, John, who is the British Road Race Walking champion in the vets 65 category, finished 18th overall and was first over 65 finisher. It was a tremendous performance by the veteran.

This has earned John the Eddie McNeir shield and he becomes a member of the Centurions Club, which is for those athletes who can walk 100 miles in under 24 hours.

To appreciate this achievement, the Centurions Club has 973 members and was started in 1874.

Chorley Athletic Club are very proud that John is now member number 974.
