Chorley 178-9 dec

Preston 63 all out

CHORLEY collected another 15 points with this crushing win at West Cliff.

Batting first, Chorley suffered an early blow when Patel retired hurt following a collision with Preston keeper Johnstone.

Bannister though joined Heaton to take Chorley to 83 before Bannister was caught for a watchful 46.

Heaton, after a slow start, reached 56 before being caught and when Fazackerley was also caught for a most attractive 42, Chorley were 163-3.

However, with the overs running out, the Chorley middle order perished in the chase for quick runs until Horridge declared at 178 with one over remaining.

The Preston innings was soon in trouble as the revived Patel started with four maidens during which he trapped professional Henderson LBW.

Marquet struck another early blow to leave Preston 3-2.

Preston's feeble reply was sent further into decline when Patel had Greenwood caught in the gully and the introduction of Bannister accelerated the end.

Bannister claimed 3-6 before Marquet returned to clean up the tail to finish with 3-23.

Only Mann, with 27 before Heaton superbly ran him out, offered any resistance and, unusually, Preston's innings didn't include a single extra.
