"OK -- you got me!" Big Sam agrees to support a British Red Cross appeal, helped by a little "persuasion" from Edith Conn, the Bolton woman who is charity's Greater Manchester deputy president.
The duo were lending a hand to promote the annual Humanity Awards run by the Red Cross. And hoping that people in the Bolton area would get involved.
The awards highlight extraordinary acts of kindness and courage by ordinary people. Past winners include Christine Hough of Bolton who rescued a local pensioner from a life of squalor at his home.
"We'd love to hear from people in this area, because we know that there are lots of really special people here," explained Edith.
To make a nomination, either ring the awards' hotline on 0800-169-7173. Or write to them at: Humanity Awards, FREEPOST, 9 Grosvenor Crescent, London SW1X 7BR. But, you'll have to hurry -- nominations close on Friday, August 31.
