ANOTHER mixed season has ended and unusually for the Mixed League 6 results are outstanding. Fortunately none of these affect the winner and runner up spots in any Division.
These are all known but are subject to confirmation when the eligibility of players for the last 2 matches has been checked against the new eligibility rules introduced this season. The new rules have led to a number of difficulties this season and are to be reviewed by the League Committee with the intent of ensuring that next season the rules are clear and easy to monitor. Details will be communicated to all clubs in due course.
On the playing side Holcombe Brook A are once again champions despite
having yet to complete their final match against Vulcan, with runners up Hawkshaw A providing their only serious challenge.
Relegation issues were much closer with Longsight A and Markland Hill B relegated on games difference from Leigh and Vulcan (assuming Holcombe A beat Vulcan).
In Division 2 Markland Hill C are champions, with Bolton Cricket Club runners up on games difference. Holcombe B are relegated along with Walmer A. This despite a late season surge by Walmer who needed to beat Bolton Cricket Club in the last match to stay in Division 2. They failed by just 3 games going down 51 - 48, a 6 - 2 win by Bolton's Wolfenden and Davies over Booth and Davies proving to be the vital set.
In Division 3 Eagley and Lostock B finished well ahead of the rest with David Lloyd B and Holcombe Brook C finishing in bottom spots.
Division 4 runaway winners were Guildhall. Runner up spot was closely contested with Bradshaw B pipping Lostock C on the last match night, despite Lostock pushing Guildhall close only to lose by 2 games.
Walkers are undefeated winners of Division 5. Runners up spot was decided in the last match, with both contenders, Walmer B and Markland Hill C playing each other at Walmer. Markland Hill ran out winners by a 66 - 55 margin. Markland Hill won all the mixed sets and from then on Walmer were always struggling to catch up.
Division 6 winners Harwood were also undefeated all season with newcomers Bolton School taking runner up spot.
