Groundstaff were struggling to clear a huge puddle blocking the wheelchair way when chairman, Phil Gartside, suddenly appeared like a knight in shining armour.
"He took off his jacket and offered to lay it over the puddle," Sylvia Higginbottom explained, "just like Sir Walter Raleigh!
"It didn't make any difference but it was a brilliant gesture."
Pat Jackson beamed: "We'd like to thank the chairman for making us feel like royalty!"
Mr Gartside rushed to the disabled entrance when he heard they were having problems. "There was nothing I could do that wasn't being done already," he said, "but I just decided to have a laugh with them. Fortunately the water was soon cleared so I didn't have to get my jacket wet."
Sylvia Higginbottom and Pat Jackson give Wanderers' chairman, Phil Gartside, the thumbs up after his 'Sir Walter Raleigh' impression.
