A Horwich mum is hoping to turn tragedy into triumph as she embarks on a fund-raising drive to spare other parents the heartbreak she has suffered.
Six years ago Sara Ward's life was turned upside down when her son Jacob Daniel fell victim to cot death at four and a half months old.
Tomorrow Sara will host a fitting tribute to her son when she stages a fund-raising fun-day to help boost research into cot deaths.
Selfless Sara and two friends are taking over Horwich's British Legion Club, Emmett Street, for the day and hope as many townsfolk as possible will come on down and support them.
Sara, of Barlow Street, is raising cash for The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths which helped the grief-stricken mum through her darkest hour.
The trio of friends also want to provide a specialist piece of equipment to prevent other parents having to suffer.
"On September 10 it will be six years exactly since I lost my son," Sara said. "I later went on to have my daughter Danielle Jayne who is now a lively four-year-old.
"If it wasn't for the foundation's help having my daughter would have been a lot more traumatic than it was."
She added: "When you go to have another child you are issued with a breathing monitor which sets off an alarm if your child stops breathing.
"We are trying to raise money to buy a monitor for other parents who have been exactly what I have been through."
Sara and her team have their sights on £500 to provide a breathing monitor but that all depends on the support they receive for their grand day out.
"This event is very close to my heart," she added. "The shops in Horwich have been fantastic by donating lots of raffle prizes and St Joseph's RC School have done a collection for me. We are now hoping for plenty of people to turn up and support our cause."
The fun begins at 1.30pm on Sunday with a fair, stalls, ten-pin bowling and much more. It will continue until 6.30pm when there will be a chance to get on down with a disco.
