IT seems that it is not only the Japanese, T Mellows (BEN, August 18), who have difficulty coming to terms with their war crimes.

I would have thought the massacre of 200,000 people at Hiroshima and a similar number at Nagasaki were actions requiring a little more in the way of moral justification than Mr Mellows is prepared to give. As for Malcolm Pittock's alleged desire to dominate the columns of the BEN, why should the reactionary world view of people like Fred Shawcross be the only one presented by the media?
