THE quality of the goals was superb and that was the difference between the two sides.
We were slightly hesitant in some of our defending, particularly at the end of the frst half when Jussi had to make some excellent saves and the post saved us. We let them in a couple of times in the second half too when we were looking for that second goal. So we've got some tidying up to do.
Isaiah Rankin got us on our way with a fantastic strike and I wouldn't have thought we'd be able to beat that but the pace and the sheer strength of Michael Ricketts and the quality of his finish was the icing on the cake.
A clean sheet is always nice. We have conceded only one goal at the moment and we're scoring freely and with quality, which is fantastic.
We're putting together a very exciting strikeforce with the old boys, Dean Holdsworth and Ian Marshall, and the youger end, Isaiah and Michael, and the combinations we can put out can frighten the opposition. That can be the difference between staying at the top of the league and being mediocre.
If we take our chances, we'll get three points. We can organise the rest of the team as well as anybody else and make ourselves difficult to beat but you have to have that quality in front of goal to win you games and that's what we have at this moment in time.
There's still a lot to work on, still a lot of rough edges to knock off but we've only been together a short time. We wouldn't have dreamed of a start as good as we've had, now we've got to take full advantage of what we've got and get stronger and fitter. The more people we get back - like Mike Whitlow and Michael Ricketts on Saturday - the better we will become.
I decided to play with a front three because the back three and wing-backs hasn't been a great attacking force at home where we've found it difficult to take the game to the opposition. We used Bo Hansen wide out on the right to put more pressure on the opposition and I thought it worked exceptionally well. Bo did an excellent job being a great outlet, particularly in the first half, and got some quality crosses into the box. He's a good finisher as well.
We rode our luck, I won't deny that, but you sometimes need a bit of luck to win games. We'll watch the video, work on the training ground and brush up on a few things which we got away with on Saturday. We can't give the opposition as many chances as we did but that was maybe because we were playing three up front. We were a little bit more open.
The second goal came at just the right time because Preston were always a threat and, if they'd got to the last five minutes, they might have nicked one and we'd have been kicking ourselves. Michael Ricketts finished them off.
If we can maintain that quality of finish, then the confidence will grow and we'll start going into every game thinking we are going to win. We'll have no fears.
