A BOLTON bobby is set to take on the clock and the heights to help raise funds for cancer sufferers.
Pc Tony Nicholls, a member of GMP's elite tactical aid unit, will join 19 of his colleagues to tackle Britain's three highest peaks to benefit the Christie's against Cancer appeal.
On Saturday members of the special squad, drawn up from units across Greater Manchester Police's area, will take to the slopes of Snowdon in North Wales, Scafell in the Lakes and Ben Nevis in Scotland.
The total climb of 11,000 feet or 26 miles -- with much of it completed in the dark -- will be interspersed with 700 miles of road travel.
Pc Nicholls will be joined by officers from Trafford, Tameside, Stockport, Salford and Wigan in the attempt which could raise £3,000.
The money will go towards the £25 million sum needed to fund research, new facilities and develop more effective cancer treatments.
Team leader Insp Matt Gallagher said: "To fulfill the challenge we must start by putting a hand or foot in the sea as close to Snowdon as is possible at 7am.
"Having climbed all three peaks, we have to do the same in the loch below Ben Nevis before that time on Sunday morning. It won't be easy but it will be interesting."
