BOLTON police have praised an initiative to keep children on the straight and narrow - by encouraging them to turn to fishing.
The Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs and Crime scheme at Bradshaw Hall Fisheries, Bradshaw, has involved 50 youngsters in fishing competitions throughout August.
Supt Stuart Bailey and drug supremo Sgt Elaine Hodgkinson will present trophies to the overall winners on this Bank Holiday Monday.
Bolton police have donated two trophies for children in under 13 and the 13 to 16 age groups who have caught the most fish in weight over the month.
Officers hope the initiative will inspire the youngsters to continue fishing which has traditionally been a sport enjoyed by young people.
