Adlington make up for cup defeat ADLINGTON made up for the disappointment of their Cross Cup defeat by Atherton last week by inflicting a heartening 47 run win over Standish.

It didn't look as though things would turn out that comfortable at one stage as they could only muster 136-9.

Their bowlers turned the match their way, Duncan McNally taking 6-34 and pro Matthew Taylor 4-52 as the Wigan side were dismissed for 89, pro Sarker contributing 30 to the total.

Earlier Taylor, 52, and McNally, 22, had done well with the bat as Adlington recovered from a sticky patch at 35-4 with a half century stand while 22 each from Andrew Robinson and Mike Howard helped. Sarker was the star with the ball for Standish taking 5-50.

Whittaker, 41, led the Darcy reply with Andy Stocks, 33, and Gary Harper, 30, scraping home at 150-9, which was rough justice on Atherton bowler Greg Greenough, who took six for 30.

Astley and Tyldesley scored 163-8 at Edgworth and had the home side on the ropes at 141-9 but couldn't claim the final wicket.

Leaders Walshaw were left on the brink of claiming the championship after their game with Golborne was washed out.
