AS a regular peruser of 'Your Views' column, may I say how much I enjoy reading the letters of your regular writers, George Brown and Brian Derbyshire especially, as I agree wholeheartedly with their opinions.
I knew George Brown when my father Albert Royse was on Farnworth Council, although on the opposite side of the political floor.
However all the councillors in those days were true gentlemen, working solely for the good of Farnworth and her citizens, taking not one penny of financial reward.
To me, today's councillors are an entirely different breed.
I also remember my father saying that it was a terrible day for Farnworth when they were taken over by 'Big Brother' Bolton, and so it proved to be.
To illustrate what true gentlemen the councillors of Farnworth were in 1960, they allowed my father, as the only Conservative member at the time, to have a walkover election, unopposed by any Labour candidate, so that he could be Mayor of Farnworth that year.
Could you imagine today's Labour Council, or Conservative even, doing that?
The same thing has happened nowadays in national Government.
The great statesmen and philanthropists of old working for the good of the country have gone.
Instead, in all parties we have a bunch of intellectual creeps, only out to make as much money as they can for themselves, with the seeming attitude of 'blow you Jack, I'm all right'.
School
So George, Brian and all you others of the 'Old School of Thought', keep up the criticism, a lot of us maturer readers agree with you.
