BLACKROD Town striker Micky O'Neill won the man of the match vote in his team's 4-2 home Premier Division win over Freckleton.
The striker who signed from Charnock Richard late last season scored the first and third goals in Town's second win in the opening three games.
Dave Such paved the way with the opening goal, his third of the season, with the best of the quartet coming from Kev "Shorty" Truman, the former Bolton Wanderers youth player who rounded two defenders and the keeper before rolling the ball over the line for the fourth. Town play Burnley United away on Wednesday, kick off 6.45pm.
The Town Reserves won 2-1 at Tempest United with Ashworth and Chastie goals, Jamie Baxter scoring for the Chew Moor outfit. "It was a cracking little game," enthused United chairman Alan Westhead.
Charnock Richard beat Wyre Villa 4-1 at home with goals from Andy Roberts (2), Schofield and Allen and the 2nd team made it a double celebration for the club with Holland and Dashtie strikes earning a 2-0 away win at Poulton Town.
Eagley slumped to a third loss in four games with a Whitehead goal just about the only thing to cheer the spirits in a 2-1 home defeat by Norcross and Warbeck. The Eagley Reserves went down 4-0 at the same opposition.
In Division One Tempest 1st team's up and down start to the season continued with a 3-1 defeat at Carnforth Rangers but it could so easily have finished in Micky Farnworth and Pete Darby's side's favour. Two goals down early on United battled back with Sean Whorlow netting just after the break.
Sadly the scoring sensation picked up from Sunday football lost out on the opportunity to add to his five goal season tally when he missed from the penalty spot just two minutes later. Had that gone in there was little doubt United would have gone onto win. As it was Carnforth made them pay the full price with a third goal. Goals from Andy Pendlebury and Matt Holiday earned Turton a 2-2 draw at Burnley Belvedere.
