BOLTON Association under 18s beat their counterparts from the Bolton League when the two teams met in the annual Brian Hallows Memorial Trophy on Monday.

The match, held at Farnworth SC Cricket Club, where Brian was chairman, was well contested by both sides in the glorious Bank Holiday sunshine and it was the Bolton League who were put in to bat first.

Some miserly bowling from Darcy Lever's Andy Stocks (3-21) and Walshaw's Liam Riley (2-11) restricted the League side, who were indebted to Kearsley duo Darren Whittle (51) and Jordan Thornley (21) to reach their score of 147.

This looked easily defendable especially when the Association side were rocking at 38-4, but some hard hitting from the middle-order saw them to victory.

Steven Ashworth 36, Danny Hornby 37 not out and Mark Penny 20 and man-of-the-match Stocks 15 not out ensured the side cruised past the total with nine overs to spare.

The win rounded off a super season for the junior Association sides after winning the equivalent trophies against their League rivals 21at under 13 and under 18s level.
