RESIDENTS of Tonge Fold had a whale of a time in the sunshine at the area's first ever official fun day, opened by one of the area's oldest residents, 97-year-old Lily Davis.
Members of the fledgling Tonge Fold Residents Group worked hard to organise the day of fun which attracted hundreds of visitors who enjoyed games, tombolas and plenty of medieval fun thanks to a set of stocks.
Cllr Elaine Sherrington and other local dignitaries braved it in the stocks without getting too covered in gunge.
Jack Barlow, chairman of the residents group, said: "It was a brilliant day and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
"It was the first time we'd organised something like this, but it was such a success we hope to make it an annual event.
"We're still counting the money, but we have certainly raised at least a few hundred pounds for the group's kitty.''
Anyone who would like to join the residents group is welcome to attend a meeting tonight at 7.30pm at the Conservative Club in Bury Road.
