INVESTIGATIONS were continuing today after 14 people were injured in an accident on the Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The crash between two of the coaster's trains happened at 8.30pm at the station where people get on and off the ride. Four people were trapped in the cars.

Two teenage boys were still being treated in Blackpool Victoria Infirmary today.

The teenagers detained are from a children's home in the resort, said police.

A 13-year-old boy suffered a broken right leg and a 15-year-old boy was being treated for back and rib injuries.

The other 12 were released after being treated for bruising and whiplash.

David Cam, director and company secretary of the Pleasure Beach, said: "We called in the Health and Safety Executive last night and we started our own investigation to find out exactly what happened."

The accident follows the death last month of 11-year-old Christopher Sherratt, of Blackpool, who fell from the Space Invaders ride at the Pleasure Beach.

The ride will be closed until the investigation has been carried out but the Pleasure Beach will open as usual at 10am to cater for the resort's visitors coming to see the famous illuminations switched on by Westlife tonight. David Cam, with the Big One behind him
