AN inquest has been opened into the death of a Bolton man found dead from a single gunshot wound to his head.
Alan John Mountifield, aged 50, of Roseneath Road, Daubhill, was found collapsed in the living oom of his semi-detached home by his wife Dorothy, aged 45, at 5am on Tuesday.
Paramedics were called but he was pronounced dead 50 minutes later.
The house was cordoned off as a police forensic team and ballistics experts carried out an investigation.
Police have said there are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
His body was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital where Mr Mountifield was formally identified by his brother-in-law Frank Morris, of Brodick Drive, Breightmet.
It is believed that Mr Mountifield, a former chef, had come back home for the Bank Holiday weekend after working as an engineer in Plymouth.
The inquest was adjourned.
