A FORMER professional Triathlete gave a good account of himself when he took on a top-class field in the recent Glasgow Millennium Marathon.
Bolton-born Martin Lee finished fifth out of a field of over 10,000 runners -- and third British runner.
The 36-year-old father-of-two, who now lives in Bury and is a member of Rossendale Harriers, completed the hilly course in a time of 2h 35mins.
He said: "I expected to do a better time but it was a shock finishing fifth."
The race was won by leading Kenyan distance runner Wilson Cheryiuot followed by Francis Kipketer.
Martin, who was North-West triathlon champion three times and a British team member now plans to go to the Cologne Marathon in October 1.
He said: "This was my 31st race this year but only my second marathon."
He also aiming to better a personal best for the marathon distance set by his father Dennis, of 2hrs 26mins.
