LEIGH RMI have made a move to re-sign former Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United star Mark Patterson.
"Mark was with us last year,"says manager Steve Waywell. "He had an offer to join Chester City but unfortunately for the lad he failed the medical to go full time. That could now work to our benefit."
Waywell hopes to have the midfielder on board in time for tomorrow's trip to Stevenage Borough where RMI will be going for their fourth straight victory.
Beaten 2-0 at home by Dagenham & Redbridge on Monday, Stevenage have yet to win at their Broadhall Way stadium this season and currently lie 13th in the Conference table.
"It's another big challenge for us," admits Waywell. "But confidence is high after our recent performances and there's no reason why we can't go down there and get a result."
Waywell has also praised the Leigh public for the way they've responded to the club's promotion.
He says: "The support we have had at the start to life in the Conference from the people of Leigh has been fantastic.
"With a home crowd just short of a thousand on Bank Holiday Monday for the game against Scarborough we couldn't really have asked for any more. It was brilliant and there is no doubt that the players responded.
"The test now will be next Tuesday with our first real midweek home fixture of the season against Hednesford. It would be superb for us if we could have that level of support again. If we could break through that magic 1000 mark for home games at Hilton Park I would be delighted because there is absolutely no doubt that it gives the players a massive lift to play in front of a crowd like that.
"If we can get the support of the people of Leigh in numbers there is no telling what we might be able to achieve."
