WHEN your boy or girl goes out to play, sometimes they take with them packets of crisps, bars of chocolate, ice pops in plastic sleeves, orange drinks in plastic cartons and cans of pop.

Around here, most children never bring their litter home.

Where do they leave it -- everytime, everyday?

Have you ever wondered what they do with their litter?

Look around this area. It's strewn everywhere. What's the reason I ask?

Sloth, arrogance, pure laziness, selfishness, hopelessness, can someone tell me?

One ingenious young man now tidies up by pushing his fish and chip paper down the grid, only because the back of the NYNEX box is jammed full of litter. Where has pride gone? Mother used to brush the front and white stoned the step.

No one taught me not to drop litter, it has always seemed the right thing to do to be tidy. Finally, is there a connection as to why German cars and domestic appliances are well-made and that their streets are spotless? They also recycle 70 per cent more of their rubbish than we do.
