BUDDING Bolton sailors are celebrating after a much-needed cash boost which will keep them on the move.
The Bolton Sea Cadets, who meet every Wednesday and Friday at Derby Barracks, Fletcher Street, certainly have a busy calendar.
With outward bound courses, summer camps and activity sessions from football to marksmanship, the 60-strong group of youngsters are always on the go.
The only problem they have is raising money on an annual basis to keep the organisation's fleet of two mini-buses on the go.
Now, thanks to the BBC's Children in Need Appeal, the group can set sail for a raft of new adventures after receiving £2,270 towards the running costs of the vehicles.
Sea Cadets spokesman, chief petty officer Dawn Edmondson said the group had applied for the grant earlier in the year and were delighted to have received the money.
"It is a constant struggle to find the money to pay for the bus and the award is vital to enable us to continue the good work with young people," said Dawn. "We currently have a group taking part in a sailing week in Barrow-in-Furness and we also need the transport for summer camps and outward bound trips to such places as the Lake District and for sorting events across the country.
"We must thank the Children in Need appeal for helping us to continue our work."
