CHORLEY 'A', playing in Division One away to one of the top sides, Broughton A, had a closely contested match which ended in a draw.

Ruth Harrison and Anne Warhurst won 6-4 and lost 3-6, Jonny Burridge and Stephanie Drinkhall won a set 6-3, and were narrowly defeated 5-7.

Ian McClelland and Gary Baker won 6-4 and lost 2-6 and Alan Gibson and Mike Cryer won 6-3 and lost 3-6.

With honours even at this stage the mixed sets were crucial. Mike Cryer and Jenny Burridge had an easy 6-0 win and a 6-3 win by Ian McClelland and Stephanie Drinkhall meant that the final score was a 6-6 draw.

Chorley 'C' had a convincing win away to Springfields 'C'.

Wins by Carol Wright and Paula Thornton 6-2, 6-1, Viv Sanderson and Janet Hodgson 6-3, 6-2, Mike Brazier partnering Andy Heywood 6-0, 6-3, and by Joachim Langfeld with Ty Culley 7-5, 6-3 put Chorley 8-0 up.

Success in the mixed doubles by Carol Wright and Andy Heywood 6-0, Viv Sanderson with Joachim Langfeld 6-1, and Janet Hodgson and Mike Brazier 6-3, gave Chorley victory at 11 sets to 1.

Today and tomorrow from 10am to noon each day, an open course of tennis coaching for children between 8 and 15 is available at a cost of £5 per session. To attend a session just come along to the courts beside Chorley Cricket Club. The tennis club's new clubhouse is now completed and in use and work on the new courts is well advanced.
