A WEEK after Jaffer Javid went missing, Blackshaw Lodge remained a deserted industrial pond.
The area is noticeably popular with children: A kids' chair and table sits in the long grass and a rope swing dangles from a nearby tree. But there are also derelict buildings attached to uneven allotments and a couple of abandoned cars.
The lodge sits alongside Middle Brook, a filthy stream that runs at the back of Haslam Park. And gaining access to the lodge is easy with a gaping hole in a wall alongside the train track.
Barbed wire protects the other three sides of the lodge but there are gaps in places. There is also a complete absence of warning signs.
In fact, the only change made to the area since Jaffer's untimely death is a bouquet of flowers which reads simply: "For Jaffer Javid."
Two of the residents of the nearby Rogerstead Flats, Hazel Minion and John Smith, believe the lodge needs filling in -- straight away.
Miss Minion added: "There are 99 two-bedroom flats in the three tower blocks around here, not to mention the ground level houses on the estate. That's a lot of children to be near something so dangerous."
