LEIGH RMI have failed in their bid to re-sign ex-Wanderers midfielder Mark Patterson, who has joined UniBond Premier League side Accrington Stanley instead.
Hilton Park boss Steve Waywell admits it's a disappointment but, he adds: "It's not a disaster. I am very happy with the squad that we have already got, and although I was hoping that Mark would join us, it just wasn't meant to be."
Waywell will be looking for that squad to get back on the rails tonight when they meet third bottom Hednesford Town at Hilton Park.
A heavy 3-0 defeat at Stevenage on Saturday was, according, to Waywell out of character.
"We'd won the previous three games, so to see us perform so badly on Saturday was a shock. But it's all about how we respond to a defeat," he says. "We certainly can't afford to defend as badly as we did down there."
Although the Staffordshire side are stuck in the bottom three they showed how dangerous they can be by hammering fellow strugglers Northwich Vics 7-1.
Trailing 1-0 at half time, Town went to town in the second half, smashing in seven unanswered goals.
"They'll be up for it after that result," says Waywell. "We've got to make sure we match their enthusiasm."
