Lostock continued their good start to the new season with a hard fought victory at Wharton.
Lostock got off to a bad start conceeding a try within the first couple of minutes.
This season though Lostock are made of sterner stuff. Within a minute or so the visitors had reduced the deficit with a Nichols penalty.
Lostock took the lead when, from a five meter scrum, last year's leading try scorer Ian Cameron opened his account for the season going over in the corner.
They went further ahead when Cameron had a clear run under the posts for his second score of the match. Nichols converted.
Wharton got back into the game when Lostock conceded two unnecessary penalties to reduce the deficit to just four points at 15-11.
Lostock then finished the half with just 13 men on the field. A knee injury to debutante Alan Coremode, raising fears of cruciate damage, and a sin-binning for prop Barr left the visitors facing a torrid time.
The remainder of the game turned into a scrappy affair with both sides realising that one score would win the match. This never happened although the away side came on strong in the last 10 minutes creating a couple of half chances and missing a penalty which would have eased the tension a little.
A much improved performance is needed next week when Lostock entertain Furness, two leagues higher, in the Tetley vase.
All supporters and new players are warmly invited to attend.
Lostock seconds started their campaign by entertaining Littleborough seconds. Although they went down 26-3 new skipper Stuart Howarth was pleased with his side's performance and when his new players settle in he is expecting a good run of form from them.
