The caption to this picture which appeared in the Evening News in January, 1949, read: 'Road repairs at Lower Adlington, where a bridge over a disused mineral line is being demolished and the road levelled. These pictures show how the new section is being lowered, and the last of the old bridge. Westhoughton-rd., leading from Chorley to the Blackrod by-pass, is closed while the work is in progress.' In case you cannot recognise the scene, it is on the A6, and where the shop stands in the top picture is where Rawlinson Lane crosses the main road. The top picture is looking towards the village, and the bottom picture towards Chorley.
