A HEARTBROKEN mum lost a bracelet bought for her in memory of her late son while she was swimming in the sea on holiday in Spain.

But Mrs Joyce Farrimond now has it back after a Good Samaritan with a metal detector found it -- and tracked her down using the Internet.

Mrs Farrimond had resigned herself to the fact that her beloved memento of son Peter, who was killed in a car crash aged just five 24 years ago, was gone forever when it slipped off her wrist while she was paddling in Benidorm last month.

But unknown to her, that very same night the jewellery was recovered by Liverpudlian Matthew Francis while he was wandering across the beach with a metal detector.

And the first thing he did when he got back to England was set about tracing Mrs Farrimond -- after he realised the sentimental value of the bracelet.

Fortunately, the silver jewellery was inscribed with Peter's name and their postcode -- and using a bit of detective work and a "people search" on the Internet Mr Francis managed to track down the family home.

And by the time Mrs Farrimond arrived back from Benidorm, he had already contacted her family back in Bolton to tell them it had been found. Unaware it had been recovered, Mrs Farrimond, of Mobberley Road, Breightmet, arrived back in England heavy-hearted.

But her daughters were immediately on hand at Manchester Airport to tell her the good news.

And Mrs Farrimond today said thank-you to the Good Samaritan who was honest enough to give her bracelet back.

She told the BEN: "I was heart-broken because I thought it was gone forever. It is 24 years since Peter died, but I still feel like it was yesterday and I treasure the bracelet."

Little Peter was killed when he was involved in a collision with a car while he was crossing the road running an errand for a family friend.

Following the tragedy in 1976, family and friends clubbed together and bought Mrs Farrimond the bracelet, engraving it with the message "In memory of Peter from the patrons of the New Wilton Hotel".
