I UNDERSTAND that the New Labour Government are reviewing lease hold in this country. Some MPs have worked hard to get long needed concessions for flat owners. But what have our MPs in Bury and Bolton done to get rid of ground rent that affects many, many householders in Bolton and Bury?

What is simply required is the right of every person subject to ground rent to buy the freehold of their property at a pre-stated legal cost, which should be low enough to allow every ground rent payer to make their home their castle. In an election year it does give an indication of whether our elected representatives put constituents' interests before commercial interests.
