DESPITE the heavy rainfall of the previous two days, it was a scorching hot day for the Rufford 10k road-race.

Twenty-two Chorley Harriers took to the streets to support this well organised event.

Russell Barron travelled from Sheffield to support the club and finished in 20th place in a time of 36 minutes 07 seconds.

Chris Lane continues to improve with each race and finished in 38 minutes 10 seconds.

A special mention must go to Tony Totham and Ken Chadwick, both new to running, and already seeing the benefit of training.

Each broke the 50 minutes mark by nearly two minutes. Afterwards Ken said: "I was nearly in line for the 'golden bucket' award. It was so hot I never thought I would finish, but I did and I feel a sense of achievement".

Another notable time was set by Cheryl Pope who gained a PB by nearly two minutes, finishing in a time of 47 minutes 36 seconds.
