THIS is a letter directed to the powers that be, those who were responsible for the generator, which was left next to the war memorial, in the Town Hall Square.
Sunday, September 3, was the very first celebration of Merchant Navy Day, a wreath was laid to commemorate the lives of those lost in the line of duty, the said wreath could not be laid in front of the memorial, it had to be placed to one side.
As the date for this event was decided earlier than the night before, someone should have got their act together and sorted this matter out, not just left it.
I personally thought it was a disgrace. The Town Hall may have allowed the Red Ensign to be flown but I think in general they didn't care enough to make the occassion special for both the people attending or those whose lives they were ommemorating.
