MILLIONS of TV viewers last saw soap star Glenda McKay being pushed to her death from a cliff by her mad boyfriend.
But in December, Glenda who played Rachel in popular farming soap Emmerdale, will be bouncing back -- as Prince Charming in Bolton's pantomime Cinderella.
And she will be joined in the lavish production at the Albert Halls by children's TV favourites Kelly George from Grange Hill, who will be playing Buttons, and Joanne McIntosh, from Byker Grove, as Cinderella.
The all-star cast has just been announced by Phil Smith, entertainment manager for Bolton Council, who has been working closely with the Fame Factory production company.
He revealed that they had had their eye on Glenda to star in the show since January.
"The only soap stars you can get, because of their work commitment, is someone who has left the show -- the DiMarco family from EastEnders are in great demand this year," he said.
The Council is hoping to build on last year's panto success which featured Bolton's own Stu Francis -- he is playing Darlington this year -- and Fox from Gladiators.
"We try to appeal to all age groups," said Mr Smith.
He is still keeping tight lipped about some other cast members, but says they will be recognisable to Bolton people.
There is also a chance for local people to be a star this Christmas - by joining the chorus line of Cinderella. Hundreds of young hopefuls will be heading for The Albert Halls on Sunday to audition for a prized place in the show.
Anyone who can sing and dance can go along to try their luck.
Mr Smith said they had contacted up to 50 local dancing schools in the area, but there was still room for anyone who wanted to have a go.
Junior Chorus auditions, for those 4ft 11ins tall or under, take place at 10am, while those wishing to audition for the Senior Chorus (5ft tall and over) should go along for 1pm. Remember to wear suitable clothing -- and don't forget your dancing shoes!
Application forms are available from the Albert Halls Ticket & Information Centre, and all of the dance schools throughout the borough. They will also be available at the Albert Halls on the day of the auditions.
The ticket hotline is extremely busy, with bookings up on last year. The panto runs from December 1 to January 7. For more information contact the Albert Halls on (01204) 334306.
