show promise EARLY signs are that Atherton LRFC's newly-formed U7s Academy side could have unearthed one or two stars for the future.
The young team warmed up for a first-ever season of competitive rugby football with two friendly game wins over Boothstown at Robin Park, Wigan, last Sunday.
LR initially dominated the match, playing some excellent football which brought a richly deserved 7-0 victory.
The Boothstown outfit fielded their stronger side in the second game making matters a little bit more difficult for the LR side but again they rose to the challenge and celebrated a 4-1 win.
Coach for the young side is Steve Plant, the first team manager at senior level and Crilly Park director of football.
He said: "This squad of young players contains a lot of talent and some of the kids possess a huge amount of skill for their age. And some of the football they play is just a joy to watch!
"All the players have been training on a weekly basis at the club's Soccer Academy, building up for the start of their season.
"We have teams at LR to cater for young players aged 6-12 years in our Academy and we are always looking to attract new lads of a good standard who would benefit from developing and progressing their skills under the tuition of our high standard of coaching."
