THE lethal left foot of Hugh Curran was on target 18 minutes from time to wrap up the points as Wanderers made it three wins on the trot with a 2-0 success at Luton. Paul Futcher - the defensive half of the famous twins - had earlier conceded an own goal to put the newly-relegated Hatters a goal down in the 38th minute. Paul Jones was outstanding at centre-half as Ian Greaves' side worked hard to keep their noses in front before Curran settled the nerves and secured seventh place in the table. PHIL Neal hits out at the FA's latest disciplinary clampdown after Julian Darby is sent off for the first time in his career in Wanderers' 4-0 defeat at Huddersfield. Darby, who just days earlier had scored twice at Leeds Road to help Wanderers to a 5-1 aggregate victory over the Terriers in the Rumbelows Cup, was sent off by Stoke referee Jim Rushton. "He spoiled what would have been a good footballing game," the Burnden boss complained. "I'm sure the fans don't want to see red cards." FROM the BEN, September 11, 1995.
KEITH Branagan is tipped for an international call from the Republic of Ireland after a sensational performance in Wanderers' 1-1 draw at home to Middlesbrough. John McGinlay scores his first Premiership goal to give Roy McFarland's team a 24th minute lead but Boro, with Nick Barmby menacing, hit back through Craig Hignett in the 72nd minute. Having sold Jason McAteer to Liverpool for a club record £4.5 million, Wanderers are lining up Scotland international Billy McKinlay as a replacement.
