A BETTING syndicate from Bolton and Worsley were at Doncaster races today aiming to win a bonus bet just a week after scooping £130,000.

As reported in the BEN, the group of 27 men were celebrating a stag party at Haydock racecourse last Saturday when they won the huge cash windfall.

And today they were VIP guests of the Tote at the St Leger meeting.

The syndicate, which includes Peter Callan from Hunger Hill and Worsley bridegroom-to-be Wayne Flannagan, today were being given the chance to have a bonus bet which could win them another £190,000.

Mr Callan, 54, regularly has a small personal flutter on the Tote Scoop6 system and he placed the winning bets on behalf of the syndicate at Haydock.

Friends, relatives and workmates of Mr Flannagan from Worsley, Walkden, Little Hulton and Wigan all shared in the cash windfall.

A key element of the syndicate's success was the win of 25-1 outsider Candleriggs.

Mr Flannagan and seven of the group were due to fly out on a sunshine holiday today.

But Tote bosses paid for them to be put on a different flight tomorrow so that they could attend the Doncaster meeting.

The syndicate will compete with another group head-to-head for the £190,000 bonus.

The key race is the 4.15pm, the race after the St Leger itself.

Tote spokesman Jeremy Scott said: "Although most eyes will be on the St Leger, for 27 Doncaster race-goers the final classic of the year will just pass them by as they focus on the following race and hope Lady Luck can help them out again."
