I REPLY to the two letters sent into the Your Views page from Bill Collison and W Nolan/R Ranson about complaints about the police.
I sympathise with all of you completely, but I feel it only fair to point out that the police do their very best to deal with every call and incident, but there is a reason why they become so overstretched that they fail to meet everyone's expectations.
Take us, for an example -- a man in the Harwood area repeatedly calls the police out to us, and for no reason. As the BEN readers will remember, I wrote in to Your Views page disgusted that this person reported us for not having any road tax on a vehicle that wasn't even on the road -- it was on the driveway and isn't used.
Even when the police arrived, they took no interest in this time waster. And, if this wasn't enough, this person then reported us again, the next day. It is just beyond belief.
We pay our taxes, just like everybody else, and we don't appreciate public money being wasted on prank calls. If he stopped phoning the police, then I'm sure your calls would at least get a chance to be answered.
I would just like to finish my letter by saying how sad it is that we live in a society where people are intent on destroying each other, instead of helping each other.
Whatever happened to "Love thy Neighbour"? It's never, ever, too late to start being a decent person.
