Boro lose, United win away RADCLIFFE Boro fell to a 2-0 away Unibond Division One defeat at Lincoln United. Boro just about shaded a very tight first half but went behind on the stroke of half time to a free kick floated in, headed down and Ian Williams was on hand to convert. After the break Kevin Glendon's side went all out to get a result with debutant Scott Wilson, a midfielder picked up from Rochdale, particularly catching the eye. Lincoln held firm before hitting Boro with a sucker punch on 72 minutes. A carbon copy goal from another headed back free kick was this time converted by Robbie Blake. The best chance of the game for Radcliffe came when Neil Hardy set man of the match Simon Carden through but the Lincoln keeper came out on top in a one on one situation. Boro's 19 year old goalkeeping "find of the season" Danny Hurst, who is Bolton based, has been placed on contract. Boro entertain Farsley Celtic at Stainton Park tonight, kick off 7.45pm.
qEVEN a 5-2 away win at Northern League Evenwood Town failed to make Ramsbottom United manager Ken Bridge smile, according to club secretary John Maher. "We were 5-1 with some twenty five minutes left and they took the foot off the gas," he explains. "Bridgie was none too pleased with that to say the least. Evenwood got a goal back but it was never, ever going to be anything more than just a consolation." Darren Bowman got the Rams almost immediate reply to that Evenwood early opener with Neil Wallace and Gareth Gardner making it 3-1 by the break. David Yorke-Robinson and Mark Heyes increased the lead early in the second half but Russell Brierley for once failed to get his name on the teamsheet missing his second penalty in successive games after Gardner had been brought down.
q"THAT is the most exciting finish think I've ever seen to an Atherton Colls game," gasped club secretary Paul Gregory after his team's 3-2 home win over Cheadle Town. "We were two down after seven minutes then battered them for rest of the game. It was all one way traffic but it was the 88th minute before we got a goal back and by that time you just thought it may be too late for us to get anything out of it. Not only did we push forward and get an equaliser in the very last minute, we scored again within seconds to get a winner. It was just absolutely incredible!" Tony Lee got both of those Cheadle goals in the opening seven minutes. Mark Fitton was the man to convert Jason Holroyd's through ball to create that late chink of light at the end of the tunnel with Stuart Cole smacking one in from 18 yards to level and David Wills nodding in the incredible last gasp winner.
qDAISY Hill went down 2-1 at Formby. The Merseysiders took the lead from a corner mid-way through the first half but substitute Dominic Shinks who came on at the break to replace injured striker Adam Entwistle scrambled home an equaliser. Daisy were denied the point they deserved when sloppy play gifted Formby a winner ten minutes from time. Steve Wynn won the Daisy Arla Foods man of the match award and in the Reserves the nomination went to Mark Rigby in a 1-0 win over neighbours Atherton LR, substitute Neil Melling getting the vital goal. LR lost 1-0 at Holker OB.
