TOUGHER laws to prevent any of Britain's 4,000 working men's clubs banning members on racial grounds are proposed in Government plans published today. And thousands of social clubs, including golf, squash, tennis and other sporting bodies registered as members' clubs, would come under a similar law.

IT will be business as usual at Blighty's, Farnworth, one of the most popular nightclubs in the North. That was the prediction today by one of the club's owners, Mr Gerry Slinger, following the news that it is up for sale. SIR, - While walking down Chorley-road last night about 8.25, I was suddenly surprised to observe an effect as of sheet lightning. On looking at the clouds I saw a meteor of unusual brilliance and size gliding from south to north. It seemed to traverse the heavens about equi-distant from the horizon and the zenith, and as it reached the most northerly point its light gradually paled out. Its speed was not great in comparison with shooting stars as there was ample time to watch its brilliant course. The body or tail seemed of a lurid red colour and the head like a globe of magnesium light. I am informed by a gentleman residing at Timperley that he saw a somewhat similar meteor last night about 8.30. Yours &c., E.T.
