LANCASHIRE Road Club racing section entered 12 riders in no fewer than 4 different events with members producing some excellent times in all the races.

The best ride was undoubtedly that of Frank Mackin whose trek to the Knaresborough area was rewarded with a personal best time for 25 miles of 1-00-14, beating his previous best by over four minutes.

Closer to home LRC promoted a 50 mile event around Brock and Cockerham. This event, organised by Stan Simister on behalf of the club, saw them win the team award with fine rides from Frank Kerry (2:04:27), Tony Lowe (2:09:13) and Keith Tattersall (2:11:20). The other two LRC riders were split by only 13 seconds, they were Mike D'Arcy (2:24:18) and Ian Marshall (2:24:31).

Three of the club's faster riders ventured up to Penrith to ride a 5.5 mile hill climb event to the summit of Hartside Pass. Craig Battersby's 20 minutes 43.3 seconds was just six seconds short of the winning time in an event that he has won on two previous occasions. This time he had to be content with second place. Lee McCarty's ride of 22:03.5 gave him eighth place overall and Dene Fisher had to be content with 25:58.8.

In a 10 mile event, Pete Graham was the fastest LRC rider with 25:32. John Partington rode in with 26:59 and Stan Simister produced 27:14.

qLRC club runs will continue as usual throughout the racing season with clubrunners meeting outside the Royal Oak pub, Tonge Moor Road at 8:30am on Sundays.
