VETERAN Fred Smith is ending his season in fine style. He completed Saturday's 25 mile event in 1hr 26secs then rode the Vets road race series at Elswick on Sunday where he was rewarded with the 'Lou Miller' Trophy, awarded on points scored over the whole series.
Fred was supported in the races by team mates Rob Entwistle, Jim Ince, and Ken Bath. Christine Lockhart riding the same 25 mile event as Fred on Saturday, recorded 1hr 9mins 35secs.
The club ride on Sunday took the riders to Wrightington but because of the light rain and mist the usual views were non-existent but the weather improved on reaching Southport in time to see the annual airshow.
The Clarion are off hostelling this weekend, with a big group heading for Linton in Wharfedale. The route chosen will depend a lot on the weather but a superb ride in the Yorkshire Dales is assured regardless.
Meet for the above ride at the Castle, junction of Tonge Moor Road and Crompton Way, 9am Saturday morning.
