Chorley Ladies FC 0 Barnsley Ladies FC 2

CHORLEY could not motivate themselves for this FA Cup match on Sunday and so missed out on progressing to the next round.

The match started slowly with both teams failing to control the game and there were very few chances at either end.

Things did not improve as the half progressed and a small crowd at Charnock Richard had to endure a dour 45 minutes before the ref's whistle rescued them.

After the break, Chorley looked more lively and more interested in winning, creating some good chances in an effort to take the lead.

But it was Barnsley who scored the first goal with a super strike from the edge of the box which flew into the top corner of the net.

The home team tried hard to get back into the game and manager Karl Rigby made several changes to the formation and players, but his side went further behind on 75 minutes when Barnsley turned on the style with some neat passing football and a clinical finish which the Chorley defence could do nothing to stop.

In the final 15 minutes Barnsley defended well and kept hold of the ball to limit Chorley's chances of getting back into the game.

They deserved their win and the home team will know a more determined and skilful side beat them.

This weekend Chorley are away to Accrington Stanley in the Lancashire Cup and they will have to learn how to retain possession and pass to their own players if they are to get anything out of the game.

Manager Rigby will be working hard on the basics this week with his players to make sure they improve on this performance.
