PER Frandsen admitted today to being surprised by Wanderers' winning start to the season.

"I'm very happy, of course," the midfield ace stressed, "but if you'd said we'd be in this position with so many points before the season started, I wouldn't have believed it.

"It really is unbelievable! Six wins on the trot and three away wins. I am surprised, I don't mind admitting that.

"I don't even thing we've been playing the way we know we can play. It sounds crazy but we can play a lot better than we have done.

"That makes it even more pleasing - getting points when you aren't playing as well as you can. But we have a good team spirit, you can see that, with everybody working hard for one another."

Frandsen drew personal satisfaction from Saturday's 2-0 victory over Portsmouth, knowing he maintained his improving form after a comparatively low key start to the season following his return transfer from Blackburn.

He is starting to re-emerge as the inluential figure he was in his first spell before his £1.75m move to Rovers at the height of last season's financial crisis.

"I didn't play that many games towards the end of last season," he explains, "and I didn't have that many pre-season games. But I feel I'm getting stronger with every game now - and it makes it easier when the team is winning."
