David Magilton reviews the best of the local cricket scene Redmayne Bentley Bolton Association IT'S been a miserable season for strugglers Daisy Hill, Lostock and A&T and any hopes of ending the season on a high note were all dashed on Saturday.
None of the Redmayne Bentley Bolton Association's bottom three teams could muster 100 runs as they crashed to heavy defeats.
It has been hard work for A&T in particular who have toiled all season with just one victory their reward.
They were dismissed cheaply for 83 with Andy Chappell taking 5-18 for Elton, but when the visitors batted A&T thought they might be on to a winner.
They reduced Elton from 41-0 to 55-6, but in stepped professional Arothe, who steadied the ship with an intelligent 31 to steer his side home by three wickets.
John Punchard grabbed 4-22 and professional Nigel Doyle celebrated a contract for a second season with 3-57.
There was little joy for Daisy Hill who were skittled out for 63 with Tony Potter taking 4-9, Gary Tonge 3-32 and Steve Holt 3-19.
Clifton did not have it all their own way as the spin of Chris Jones posed problems and he took the first three wickets including both openers in successive balls.
Fortunately for Clifton teenager Gareth Cross played Jones with ease and a superb unbeaten 40 steered them to a six wicket win.
Sarkar hit a solid 87 and Mark Ramsdale 45 as Standish notched up 177-6.
In reply. Lostock, dismissed for 63, were bamboozled by James Bazeley, who returned his best ever figures of 4-5.
Wayne Harper's 33 helped avoid even more embarrassment.
Darcy Lever never looked like winning or being dismissed and finished on 147-7 to frustrate Adlington.
Jason Whittaker hit 47 while Matthew Taylor, one of only two bowlers to top the 100 wickets mark for the season, added another four for 81. Earlier Adlington had made 175-6 with Steve Rawlinson and Taylor each knocking up 42.
Atherton have already qualified for Lancashire Knockout by virtue of their Cross Cup success and a below par performance handed the points to Little Hulton who are still striving for a place in the competition. Atherton made 148-7 with Paul Brown 28 not out and Paul Walsh 24 as david Parkinson took 4-3, but two good knocks by Parkinson 50 and Paul Craig, unbeaten on 51, saw the visitors home by two wickets.
Golborne must have thought they were home and dry after Ian Critchley grabbed 5-30 to help dismiss Spring View for just 107, but Hart took five wickets as Golborne succumbed to 94 all out.
Champions Walshaw were denied victory number 15 by an outstanding performance from Edgworth batsman Barlow. The visitors were reduced to 121-8 when Barlow came in to crack an excellent unbeaten 51. Denver Thornton earlier hit 55 as Edgworth finished on 186-9.
