Horwich families enjoyed an action-packed afternoon of entertainment thanks to a photography competition and the annual flower, fruit and vegetable show.
The fuel crisis did not stop plenty of visitors from popping into the show at the Leisure Centre.
Members of the town's carnival royalty presented the proceeds of this year's event to two local charities.
Peter Ward accepted a £1,000 cheque on behalf of Bolton Hospice and Pat Barrow from the children's hospice Derian House was also presented with a cheque for £1,000.
Next year's charity recipients have not been chosen yet as uncertainty remains over the future arrangements for the carnival.
As well as prizes being presented for the many commendable entries in the Flower, Fruit and Vegetable Show, awards were also given out for photographs taken at this year's carnival which best captured the spirit of the event.
Keith Pemberton, who is chairman and secretary of Horwich Flower, Fruit and Vegetable Society, said: "I think it was our 75th annual show on Saturday and it was a big success.
"Most people walked here, so we didn't have to worry about the fuel crisis.
"There were more than 400 entries and even though the odd weather this summer affected the vegetables, the flowers were excellent."
