WAR drums will be heard beating at one Bolton venue later this year, although in this case those taking part in the battle will be armed with nothing more than guitars, keyboards and musical talent. For the Gypsy's Tent on Deansgate has just announced plans for a grand 'Battle of the Bands' to be held throughout November, and local musicians are being invited to take part.
First prize will be recording time at Ionian Studios, who are sponsoring the event along with brewers Carling, and the promise of a finished cd copy and local radio play.
Co-hosting the event is Steve Robinson, formerly with top local band The Automatics.
'There's a big revival of interest in live music going on in the town at the moment,' says Steve, 'and a lot of quality local bands just scratching the surface. We hope this planned annual event will bring their talent out to a wider audience.'
The competition will take the form of a series of heats being judged by local musical celebrities, with the grand final being held on Thursday November 30.
Local bands wishing to take part should submit tapes and cds with a short description of the band to either Steve or Hilary c/o The Gypsy's Tent or ring Steve on 07939 406355 for further details.
