On a wet Sunday morning the lads turned out for a VTTA 25 miler based on a circuit of the Fylde district.
Evergreen vet Fred Smith led them in with 1 hour 1 min 15 secs. Rob Entwistle at 1 hour 5 mins 16 secs. Ken Bath with 1 hour 5 mins 59 secs. Jim Ince 1 hour 6 mins 59 secs and Bob Hodgins at 1 hour 7 mins 17 secs.
The latest club run saw the riders enjoy superb weather for the hostel weekend in the Yorkshire Dales. It was decided to take advantage of the good conditions by heading for Settle then take the long climb out of Stainforth in the direction of Littondale passing the impressive Whernside as we went.
The easy ride down to Arncliffe was a cyclist's dream, mile after mile of easy riding, the limestone pave glowing white in the afternoon sun contrasting beautifully with the emerald greens lining the valley. Kilnsey Crag was also impressive as we passed into Wharfedale, noting the rock climbers enjoying their particular brand of sport scaling the massive overhang.
We glided through a quiet Grassington and turned toward our destination for the evening, Linton. What could be nicer, a tiny village, a river by the green and a packhorse bridge linking the hostel and the local pub, perfect.
There will be no club ride this Sunday as members from all sections travel to Garstang to ride the Combined Clubs 25 event. A traditional social ride to Knott End after the event will take place.
