Bolton 22 Tyldesley 44
TYLDESLEY Rugby Union Club made the short trip to Bolton and won a game they never looked like losing 22-44.
Newly promoted Bolton found that teams one level up are bigger and faster and they punish mistakes with ease.
Tyldesley turned on the heat from the kick off and pack drove the ball within the Bolton 22-metre line, where prop Howard Hughes broke through only to be well tackled by the Bolton full-back just short of the line.
However with half the Tyldesley pack in support second rower Lee West simply picked the ball up and dived over the line for the first try converted by Eddie Wallbank.
From the restart Tyldesley again pressed forward and some neat passing and a perfect inside ball from Hooker Dave Goulbourne allowed stand-off Dave Sivill to race in under the posts for the try again converted by Wallbank.
Bolton then made they way back into the game thanks to some silly errors by Tyldesley and the over officious referee awarding penalty after penalty.
An Eddie Wallbank penalty was soon followed by another try for winger Craig Pulman who dived in at the corner, further penalties for the home side reduced the arrears to 22-15 at the break.
The second period saw Tyldesley again apply the early pressure and Loose Forward Darren Edge powered over from 20 metres out to register the first try of the second half.
He followed it a few minutes later with another -- both of them were converted by Wallbank.
Bolton made a brief fight back and their best period of play resulted in a try close to the posts.
But Tyldesley weren't finished and a Wallbank penalty was added to by a try for Andy Dickinson.
Next Saturday Tyldesley take on Heaton Moor at Well Street -- kick-off at 3.00pm.
The Second XV lost their unbeaten record against a useful Bolton side.
With four late cry-offs Tyldesley did their best to re-shuffle and tries for John Fetherston and Dave Peet and a conversion from Peet where not enough to stop the home side going down 13-12.
