LANCASHIRE Road Club time-trialists scored some end of season success with riders taking places in both open and handicap events.
Saturday afternoon saw four of the club's fastest short distance riders produce fine rides in a 10 mile event at Levens in Cumbria. Craig Battersby was the fastest LRC rider with 21.25 which was good enough for third place overall, Dene Fisher was placed fourth with 21.34 and Steve Marsh's 22.05 gave the team prize to LRC.
Lee McCarty produced a 22.46 ride and Alex Munro missed his veterans standard for the distance by just one second.
Craig, Lee and Dene competed in a hill climb over the Snake Pass in Derbyshire on Sunday morning where Craig finished fourth with 14.32.5, Lee seventh with 14.57.5 and Dene 20th with 17.02.0.
Closer to home in the VTTA 25 mile event at Garstang, Colin Greenhalgh was the fastest LRC competitor with 1.3.48. Neil Taylor 1.6.34, Mike D'Arcy 1.8.12, John Partington 1.9.22 and Ian Marshall 1.11.02 were the other LRC riders competing in the event. Mike D'Arcy's ride was probably his best of the season and was good enough to take the handicap prize.
The club's blind cyclist, Derek Pritchard, rode in two tandem events over the latter part of the week and produced rides just three seconds apart.
In an event in Cheshire on Thursday, partnered by Phil Rowley, Derek completed the course in 1.2.22 then on Sunday morning, captained by Mike Bland he produced 1.2.19 over a course peppered with road works and pot-holes.
LRC club runs will continue as usual throughout the racing season with clubrunners meeting outside the Royal Oak pub on Tonge Moor Road at 8.30am on Sunday mornings.
The ride on September 24 will be to the Beck Hall Caf in Malham, the route will be determined on the day and will be at a social pace. Anyone wishing to join the run should turn up on the day with a roadbike (and spare inner tube - just in case).
