CORONER Simon Nelson, commenting on the death of 16-year-old Jamie Young-Patel who fell through a roof skylight, said there is a tendency for young men of this age to ignore warnings.
Sadly, he's right. Teenage boys are adventurous and sometimes act before they think. But that does not invalidate the call by Jamie's family for a national campaign to highlight the dangers of young people straying onto flat roofs.
If the family spearhead the campaign and point out that this is a human story which resulted in the tragic death of a teenager, other young people might identify with the situation and heed the warnings. It's certainly worth a try.
