Mrs Jean Brookes claims the estate she has lived on for 24 years is now overgrown with weeds A RESIDENT has accused council chiefs of letting a Farnworth estate go to . . . "seed."

Mrs Jean Brookes of Lonsdale Grove, Farnworth, claims the estate she has lived on for 24 years is now overgrown with weeds.

She says when she first moved on to the estate it was a nice place to live, but believes the council has been responsible for its "rapidly downhill" decline over the last two or three years.

Mrs Brookes said: "What started as a pleasant cobbled patch of land outside my front door now has weeds which stand three foot high.

"Properties are boarded up and people do not want to live here any longer," she says.

"No one is interested in being here. It is such a mess.

"Not only is it overgrown with weeds but rubbish is dumped. Last year an old bed was left outside. We got the council to pick it up, but no sooner had they done that than a three piece suite appeared.

"No matter how many times we approach the council nothing seems to work.

"I bought my house so I am stuck here. It seems such a shame because things were very different when I first moved in.

"I just want somewhere decent to live. My granddaughter lives three doors away. She is two and a half but it is too dirty to let her play outside the front gate.

"It seems a shame that she is missing out on the quality of life that I and my children once enjoyed when we were young."

A council spokesman said that would be looking into any complaints that were made about the area.

He added: "If we are given complaints about particularly weeds we do go and have a look, and when justified we do take action.

"People should report these things to us and we will investigate."
