DISBELIEVING traders watched workmen instal new lamp posts . . . and then dig them up to connect the electricity!
But this week, their minds were put at rest by Westhoughton Town Council leader, Cllr David Wilkinson, who threw a little light on the situation.
Traders in Westhoughton had been confused by the extra work undertaken to connect the electricity.
One told the BEN: "It looks as though they have put the lamp posts up and forgotten to connect them to the electricity."
However, Cllr Wilkinson explained: "The new posts have to be put up before they are then connected to the electricity. Work is undertaken to dig up around the base of the posts to connect the cables.
"It does seem daft. We put down new flags, and they then have to be dug up, but that is the way it works."
